700 jobs and 150 apprenticeships were on offer at yesterday’s Thanet Jobs Fair organised by the area’s two MPs, Laura Sandys and Sir Roger Gale. The Minister for Employment, Mark Hoban, officially opened the event and met with some of the employers and job seekers in attendance.
Laura Sandys said: “This year’s Thanet Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is one of the largest in the country in terms of the number of job and apprenticeship opportunities available for those attending.
“There were some immediate successes with one person even securing a job within the first half an hour! Good news has continued to stream through.”
“The feedback has been extremely positive and I am glad that we were able to build on last year’s success by offering even more jobs. We also managed to attract a very diverse array of employers from the local area to recruit at the event which was good news for those looking for jobs.
This is the second year that the Margate Winter Gardens has been transformed into a giant jobs fair by Thanet’s two MPs to help match jobseekers with employers.
A director at Care at Home Services, one of the exhibitors, said “We have done a number of job fairs in the past across the areas we cover, and I can safely say that this was by far the best attended!”
The event was sponsored by local firms Discovery Park, Fujifilm Specialist Ink Services, Pfizer and Your Leisure.
