Thanet MPs, Sir Roger Gale and Laura Sandys, welcomed new figures showing the Government’s Start-Up Loans Scheme has helped 21 entrepreneurs in Thanet set up their own business by lending £116,735.
Sir Roger Gale MP commented: “The financial crisis we inherited has unfortunately meant that people who want to set up a new business have often found it difficult to get a loan. This has sadly prevented people with real ideas, talent and aspiration from putting their business plans into action. Today’s figures show that we’re changing that through Start-Up Loans.”
Laura Sandys MP said: “New businesses are the lifeblood of a healthy economy, helping to create jobs and growth. Before being an MP I ran two small businesses of my own so I understand the challenges that start-ups face. Coupled with the £40 million Expansion East Kent Fund we secured to provide an interest free loan scheme, new businesses are now flourishing across the Isle which is great news. I can’t wait to see more follow suit!”
Across the country 10,000 Start-Up Loans have now been awarded, worth a total of £50 million. For more information on Start-Up and Expansion East Kent loans, please e-mail Sir Roger at: GALERJ@parliament.uk or Laura at: laura.sandys.mp@parliament.uk
