Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, has expressed her dismay that Thanet District Council has failed to act in good time to save residents living in Thanet’s tower blocks another winter of potential fuel poverty.
Laura Sandys: “I am deeply frustrated about the failure of Thanet District Council to take action to save their residents from expensive heating bills. For the past two years I have been calling on the Council to upgrade the antiquated heating systems in tower blocks around Thanet with more energy efficient ones. A new heating system for our tower blocks is estimated to save residents 50% on their current bills.
“It is more than disappointing that works could not be undertaken before the cold set in this year as it would have saved residents a huge amount of money and ensured that they would have been warmer this winter. This is all the more frustrating as contractors who can undertake the work are in place and Government funding is available to the Council. With this in mind, I would very much urge the Council to take action to ensure that we are not still in the same situation this time next year.”
