Following widespread concern about the future of A&E at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Laura Sandys has sought from the Minister for Urgent Care Services, his assurance about the future of the Hospital.
Health Minister Earl Howe has written to Laura to affirm that the local NHS Trust ‘has no plans to close the A&E department’ at QEQM.
Laura said “I contacted the Minister after receiving a large amount of correspondence from constituents concerned that A&E at Margate was to close. I have already passed on the assurances that I have sought from Stuart Bain, Chief Executive of the local Trust, but I very much hope that this will further reassure local residents. In addition, both Roger and I continue to be absolutely opposed to any proposals that would compromise or erode the current A&E provision.”
Sir Roger Gale added: “I am deeply saddened that some people have been distressed by inaccurate, alarmist and misleading politically motivated statements and I hope that the undertakings given by both the Minister and the Chief Executive of the Trust, which are unequivocal, will reassure people that the future of A&E and the QEQM are secure”.
