The Home Office has announced that net migration to the UK has fallen by a massive 59,000. Described by the Office of Nation Statistics as “statistically significant”, the figures also show that total immigration fell by 42,000 over the same period to its lowest level since 2004.
Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, said, “These figures show just how effective the Coalition Government is being in curbing immigration. After 13 years of a Labour government that mismanaged immigration policy, we have taken robust measures to tackle this growing problem.”
“By ensuring that our borders are not open doors to those who want to come here but contribute nothing to our society, we have managed to reduce the bloated immigration figures. There is still a long way to go to get net migration into the tens of thousands, but this is certainly a strong step in the right direction”.
