After months of campaigning, Laura Sandys welcomed the decision taken at this week’s Kent County Council Cabinet meeting to reconsider the closure of Richborough Household Waste and Recycling Centre.
Laura said: “Councillors John Kirby, Jo Gideon and Leyland Ridings have been actively campaigning with me to save the Richborough site from closure.
“On Monday the councillors made persuasive arguments for retaining the site. Were it to close, it would impact thousands of local residents who simply do not want to travel an hour and a half to dispose of their rubbish. Coupled with the additional fuel costs and pollution generated, this would not be a decision welcomed locally. I am very pleased that the Council is looking again at this issue and we will all be pushing for a positive resolution."
