Following a long campaign to secure World War II heroes who served on the Arctic Convoys and in Bomber Command appropriate recognition for their services, Laura Sandys welcomed the Government’s announcement that veterans will now receive new awards to mark their bravery.
Laura said: “I have been calling on the Minister to ensure that the veterans and families of those who served on the Arctic Convoys- a campaign that Churchill called the “most dangerous run of the war”- are appropriately awarded for their service.
“Thanet members of The Independent Vindicatrix of East Kent have been passionately campaigning for this recognition and I have congratulated them on their success."
“Living veterans and the widows of those men who have sadly died are first in line and will begin to receive the awards from as early as March this year. I would encourage any eligible veterans or next of kin in Thanet to apply for the new awards commemorating the great bravery shown in helping to protect the Country during World War II.”
Veterans and families of those who served on the Arctic Convoys or in Bomber Command can apply for the awards by visiting www.veterans-uk.info or by telephoning: 08457 800 900.
