Today in Prime Minister’s Questions Laura Sandys MP raised the public’s great concern about horse meat being found in supermarket burgers. Highlighting Thanet’s love of animals, she asked the Prime Minister what he was planning to do to ensure that the residents of Thanet would be protected from any similar incidents in the future.
Laura asked “As many of my constituents both like burgers and love horses they will have been shocked by this morning’s news about horse meat. Can the Prime Minister tell us what the Government is doing to fully examine this and reassure the diners of Thanet?”
Speaking after her question to David Cameron, Laura said “I was pleased to hear the Prime Minister confirm that, while there are no public safety concerns, the Food Standards Agency will be making “urgent investigations” into how this situation arose.”
“David Cameron also agreed with me that retailers have to be responsible for what they sell. I am concerned that for too long the supermarkets have not been as responsible as they could have been.”
