At this week's Foreign and Commonwealth Office questions, Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, drew the House of Commons’ attention to the great work done by UK Trade and Investment in Thanet. This was following on from an event in Thanet instigated by Laura and arranged by KCC and UKTI to help local businesses export abroad.
Laura said: "Exporting is one of the best ways for a business to become more resilient. I was delighted to hear the Minister confirm that the Government is doing all it can to encourage and help our fantastic small and medium sized business tap into the expertise of the UKTI staff based in embassies around the globe.
"This is a really exciting time for UK exports with 11 new embassies and 8 new consulates opening to promote British business abroad. It is action like this that will help us reach our target to double UK exports to £1trillion by 2020 - and I am very hopeful that Thanet businesses will be making up a lot of that figure!"
