Following a crisis meeting called by Laura Sandys to address the dreadful problems that the residents of Victoria Road have been enduring since December 2009, she said: “I am delighted that work will now start on rebuilding the homes in Victoria Road shortly. This has been going on for far too long and I made it quite clear at the meeting that we had reached the stage where further delays were absolutely unacceptable. I am so pleased that we now have the cooperation of the insurance companies and Kent Highway Services. By knocking heads together, we have ensured that the residents caught up in this ordeal can move forward at last”.
The plight of the residents of Victoria Road first began when they were suddenly forced from their homes at Christmas in 2009 due to severe subsidence which rendered their properties uninhabitable. The nightmare continued whilst investigations were undertaken to ascertain who was responsible for the subsidence and how best to proceed.
At the meeting held by the South Thanet MP in November, at which many of the parties holding an interest in the future of the site were present, an agreement was finally reached and a plan of action put in place for the road to be reinstated and remedial works to begin.
Laura said: “I am thrilled that at long last work can begin and I think that the residents are enormously relieved that they will finally be able to return home again”.
