Following the announcement that London Array will be submitting an extension application for the wind farm Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, expressed her delight saying “London Array committing itself to trying to make this investment happen is fantastic news for the whole of Thanet. After the success of Phase 1, Phase 2 will bring more investment worth hundreds of millions of pounds to the Port of Ramsgate, both directly from London Array and indirectly via sub-contractors. I am very pleased that London Array is working in Thanet and I am sure that they will continue to be great partners to the local community and to local business”.
The Phase 2 plans propose an extension of the current wind farm installed in a 40km square area in the Thames Estuary, north of Margate. This will add 240MW, making the total capacity of the site 870MW, which will mean over 650,000 homes would be provided with ‘clean’ electricity.
This week London Array, the wind energy company, announced that they have submitted the application for Phase 2 of the wind farm project to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, which would mean a significant increase in the amount of energy generated by the site.
