Laura Sandys is calling on Southern Water to upgrade their systems after heavy rainfall resulted in screened storm water releases last week and again over the weekend.
Laura said “We have the very best beaches in Britain with more Blue Flag awards than any other area in the country, and we must have a water and wastewater system that reflects this quality.
“In light of the recent issues experienced, I have called for an emergency meeting with Southern Water to press for an upgrade of the system in Broadstairs to better cope with instances of heavy rainfall.
“I will also be urging Southern Water to put in place a better communications system so that information is issued in a timely and efficient, but also proportionate manner. Communicating the right information is vital.
“The current system appears to be unfit for purpose and needs to be overhauled as a matter of urgency.”
