Laura Sandys will be visiting several local schools this week to encourage students to take part in Parliament Week 2012, an annual event to build greater awareness of and engagement with Parliament.
Laura said: “I love having the opportunity to talk to students and answer their questions about my work as their local MP. I often meet lots of young people who want to know more about Parliament and politics so Parliament Week is a great time for them to find out more about how it all works. One day these students will be voting, lobbying and some might decide to run for election. Our future Prime Minister could even be in one of these classes so it is important that we do engage young people in democracy from an early age.”
Laura will be visiting Upton Junior School, St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and The Ellington and Hereson School to speak with students about MPs, Parliament and democracy.
Parliament Week is organised by the House of Commons and House of Lords and takes place between 19th and 25th November.
